The Characteristics of the Dogue de Bordeaux
For a start, the Dogue de Bordeaux is incredibly protective. This is a trait which can be attributed to the breed’s powerful build and past guarding and hunting for their owners. Since the Dogue de Bordeaux is especially devoted to their family, they are fearless when it comes to confronting potential threats and unfamiliar faces, all of which makes them the perfect addition to a family seeking a attentive and watchful pet.
Another characteristic of the Dogue de Bordeaux is that they are very affectionate and loving towards their owners. In fact, despite their intimidating size and muscles, this breed thoroughly enjoys the company of their owner and gains plenty of comfort from the fuss and affection that they provide. In fact, many owners report the breed to be very kind in nature and remarkably gentle for a large dog, especially in the company of children.
Unfortunately, the Dogue de Bordeaux is somewhat less friendly in the company of other dogs, largely due to their territorial and stubborn nature. Whilst other breeds may crave and endure long periods of intense exercise, the Dogue de Bordeaux is not so active and can only manage roughly half an hour of walking each day before requiring rest. Although, this does not mean that they are an easy breed to own, since the sheer size and mass of Dogues make them challenging to train and manage, especially in their youth!
However, it is the appearance and aesthetic of the Dogue de Bordeaux that dog-lovers find so attractive. With the average Dogue estimated to weigh between 99 to 110 pounds and boast a shoulder width of between 23 and 27 inches, the breed is among the most impressive and magnificent looking dogs to exist. What’s more, the Dogue sports a beautiful short fawn and mahogany coat.
